Writer, novelist, and essay coach
I love using the raw power of words to explore new worlds — both real and imagined. I love writing about people, places, and issues that move me.
Amy loves to explore the world by foot, pedal, or paddle and is always up for an adventure.
Whether she’s savoring a curry puff while cruising around Singapore’s Little India or scanning for mushrooms as she hikes the ancient forests of Haida Gwaii, she’s thrilled to be learning and better understanding our world and all its inhabitants.
Over 75 of Amy’s articles and essays have appeared in The Washington Post. She’s written about family, sustainability, and travel for National Geographic Traveler, AARP, Fodors.com, Bethesda Magazine, Arlington Magazine, TeaTime magazine, and Virginia Living magazine. Amy received an M.A. in English from the University of Virginia. She studied Great Books and English at the University of Notre Dame.
Committed to native plant gardening and supporting biodiversity, Amy trained to be an Arlington Regional Master Naturalist (ARMN) and is also a National Park Service volunteer. She’s an official park co-steward for the county park near her house and appreciates her dog, Allie, for being so patient while Amy cares for the park along their many walks. She frequently leads teams of local volunteers to both remove invasive species (English ivy, garlic mustard, porcelain berry) that crowd out our much-needed native species and also to plant our important native plants that support pollinators and birds.
A devoted yogi who travels with her mat, Amy also loves to garden in her own backyard (and several foster yards), read about almost anything, and rollerblade.
